Ensemble
Noir strives to promote cultural diversity in contemporary classical music.
We are a professional Toronto-based organization in our third season of
presenting exciting contemporary music concerts that reflect cultural diversity
and inclusiveness. Ensemble Noir’s unique artistic vision encompasses music
from a broad range of cultures with an emphasis on work from Africa and
its Diaspora. Ensemble Noir explores the landscape where the cultures
of the world merge with contemporary music. Our season features three Main
Stage concerts titled “Asylum” (Oct 26, Nov 23, Jan) and The Diversity
Project, a concert series celebrating African Heritage Month (Feb. 2003).
Ensemble Noir has been described as “remarkably
polished” (Globe and Mail). Season highlights include collaboration
with ensemble Ossia (USA); new works by Gustavo Leone (Argentina); Chan
Ka Nin; Lucius Weathersby (USA); Residency by composer Akin Euba (Nigeria)
and the return of Liberian soprano Dawn Padmore, whom the Toronto Star
said: “should be encouraged to visit us as often as possible.”
